Hello

I'm Hannah Sneyd, an abstract artist exploring the tension between instinct and structure. My work is shaped by intuitive mark-making, layered surfaces, and the precision and restraint of my career in anesthesia.

My Story

My creative practice exists alongside a career in anesthesia putting me in a world rooted in precision, control, and an acute awareness of time. That environment has deeply influenced the way I think about structure, interruption and flow.

The studio has become its counterbalance. Where my professional life demands exactness, painting allows instinct to lead. I often work without sketches or predetermined outcomes, allowing repetition, layering and response to determine what emerges.

Across my work, color and form become records of attention rather than illustration embodying traces of movement, thought and presence. The tension between discipline and intuition continues to shape my practice.

Studio Practice

Each original work develops through intuitive mark-making, sculptural layering and an ongoing response to the surface.

Texture, depth and color are built gradually, allowing conscious decisions and instinctive gestures to coexist.

The resulting work are intended to hold presence within a space.
